Get to Know Ms. Brown
As of fall 2018, I began teaching in the Olathe Schools District at Arbor Creek Elementary. I am now in my fourth year of teaching. My goofy, passionate, and happy personality connects with students and it truly fulfills my heart. I am so grateful that I get to go to work everyday and help pupils’ process of finding their own artist ingenuity.
A little background about myself.. I went to the University of Kansas and graduated in May of 2017. I finished my Masters this past fall at Baker University with a focus on Instructional Technology--harnessing the tech students want to use in the classroom. I began my journey working at Riverview Elementary with a great group of people, now my path has taken me back to Olathe, where I was a student. While I was part time at Riverview I substitute taught through Morgan Hunter Education. Beginning the summer of 2018 I started working with aspiring artists age range from 4 to 19 at The Culture House in Olathe teaching a variety of mediums, techniques, and artistic thinking. I have been awarded the Hidden Glenn OPS Foundation Arts Grant for my students called Mud with a Purpose. We got to purchase two throwing wheels for my students to create plates, bowls, planters, to share a moment with our community by students popular vote. Currently, students are completing our mART madness unit, where we learn about 16 contemporary artists, create brackets to have some competition! Honestly, I think I am a pretty cool cat who loves to work with people creatively. It brings me constant learning which is what my goal in life, to keep learning.
