Get to Know Ms. Brown
As of fall 2018, I began teaching in the Olathe Schools District at Arbor Creek Elementary. My goofy, passionate, and happy personality connects with students and it truly fulfills my heart. I am so grateful that I get to go to work everyday and help pupils’ process of finding their own artist creativity.
A little background about myself.. I went to the University of Kansas and graduated in May of 2017. I began my journey working at Riverview Elementary with a great group of people, now my path has taken me back to Olathe, where I was a student. While I was part time at Riverview I substitute taught through Morgan Hunter Education. Beginning the summer of 2018 I started working with aspiring artists age range from six to adult at The Culture House in Olathe teaching a variety of mediums.
I have done several cross-curricular lessons with my grade level teachers, which is my strength for curriculum planning (project based learning, or PBL)! For example, 1st grade reading and science curriculum has started off with animals and their habitats. Students had researched their animal, what it eats, if it is hunted, etc. Children were able to go on a field trip to the Kansas City Zoo to observe the animal of study which we could create it in clay in my class. This is a tradition through Riverview and I took my own spin and added recycled material habitats for our zoo creatures. The kids engagement aided in reaching a depth of knowledge through all of these activities. This is only one example of the cross-curricular lessons I have completed each school year.
